Create an Email Campaign
Last updated 5 days ago
This guide walks you through creating an email campaign in Subflow from start to finish. You will design the email in the visual editor, choose who receives it, set the subject line, and send the campaign immediately or schedule it for later.
Before you begin
Here is everything you need to have ready before creating the campaign:
A segment containing the contacts you want to reach, or the individual contacts already in your contact list. If you still need to create a segment, see Create a Segment.
Any images, logos, or links you plan to include in the email.
Get started
The steps below walk you through the full process of creating an email campaign.
Open Messaging from the main navigation and select E-mail Campaigns from the side menu.
Click New Campaign in the upper right corner. The template gallery opens.
Select Start from scratch to design the email yourself, or click any template card to open it as a starting point.
Enter a name in the Name field at the top of the editor. This name identifies the email design within the campaign.
Use the drag-and-drop editor to build the content of the email. The right-hand panel updates to show formatting options for whichever element you have selected.
Drag content blocks (headings, text, images, buttons) into the canvas from the editor controls.
Click any block to edit its content directly. The right-hand panel shows formatting options for that block, such as heading type (H1βH4), font family, font weight, and font size.
Switch between desktop and mobile views using the screen icons at the top of the canvas to check how the email will look on each device.
Click the eye icon to preview the finished email at any point.
Click Save in the bottom toolbar when you are done. The Unsaved Changes indicator indicates when work has not been saved yet.
Use an email template on a campaign
The steps below walk you through the full process of sending an email campaign.
Open a template from any of these two options:
Directly from the New Email Campaign page view.
Go to E-mail Templates, select one, and click Use Template.
The editor opens with three tabs at the top: Design, Recipients, and Settings. You can move between them at any point.
To send to a group, open the Recipients tab, click Add segments, and select one or more segments from the list.
To send to specific people, click Add contacts and select individual contact records.
π‘ You can combine segments and individual contacts in the same campaign. Segments include everyone who currently meets the segment criteria, so the recipient count is calculated at send time, not when you add the segment.
Click Next Step to move to Settings, or click the Settings tab directly.
In the Name field, enter an internal name for the campaign. This is what you will see in the campaigns list, not what the recipient sees.
In the Subject field, enter the subject line that will appear in the recipient's inbox.
Open the Send Now / Schedule selector and choose when to send the campaign:
Send Now: sends the email as soon as you confirm.
Schedule for Later: lets you pick a date and time for the email to be sent automatically.
π‘ Return to the Design tab at any time if you want to make a last adjustment, or click the eye icon to preview the email one more time.
Click Send and confirm the action when prompted. The campaign is sent immediately or queued to go out at the scheduled time.
βοΈ Once a campaign has been sent, the content can no longer be edited. A scheduled campaign can be canceled before it is sent.
After sending, the campaign appears in the campaigns list. The columns in the list show the following information:
Subject: the subject line you entered for the campaign.
Status: whether the campaign is Sent or Scheduled.
Recipients: how many contacts the email was delivered to.
Delivered, Open Rate, Clicked, and Bounced: how the email performed once it was sent.
Updated Date: the most recent action taken on the campaign.
Click any campaign in the list to see exactly what was sent, or, for a scheduled campaign, what is queued to go out.
